Goyavoyage's den

Margins

I, in a body society doesn't recognize, love, in ways that are alien to all of its scripts, several people at once instead of the only one it promises. Some of them, society thought I shouldn't love merely ten years ago; some it doesn't even know they exist.

I was going to say: fear us. But I know you probably do already.
So, really, how are we supposed to survive? How are we supposed to survive without anger and without pride?

I do not know.

But I know this:
We are going to build communities and homes, because you denied us ones that weren't poisoned. And we are going to care, because it is our only weapon. And we are going to hope, when we are able to.

And
above all
we are going to be visible
we are going to be seen
so that more of yours
who will never actually be yours
know that it doesn't have to be like this.

(This bit of writing was originally posted on the website cohost at the end of October 2023. It was indirectly inspired by Ace Week (formerly Asexual Awareness Week), and more directly by my wish to celebrate queer and queerplatonic relationships, and notably those I was a part of. Though some of said relationships have changed in form since then, this text feels important to repost here these days.)
